Neil Christian and Chris DaviesIN EUROPE IN WORK

An estimated 3.5 million jobs are linked to UK and EU trade.

Membership makes it easier to export and strengthens our position negotiating trade deals with economic giants like USA, China and India.

The EU/US trade agreement is worth £10 billion to the UK economy, the EU/South Korea trade agreement is worth £2 billion to the UK economy.

EU loans and grants have provided £10.4 billion investment for the UK economy.

The EU patent system will allow an entrepreneur to register a patent once rather than 28 times.

Providing jobs for the future with £60 billion invested to support research and technology for Universities.

IN EUROPE WE ARE SAFER

Crime doesn’t stop at national borders.

The EU benefits us with a number of crime fighting tools. Europol and the European Arrest Warrant have helped bring criminal gangs/ terrorists/ paedophiles to justice. One example is Hussain Osman the 2005 London train bomber who was brought back to face justice.

It works both ways; an estimated 4,000 criminals have been deported to face trial in other EU states.

IN EUROPE WE CAN PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT

Effective environmental policy doesn’t stop at national borders.  The EU is our best hope of cutting carbon emissions and reducing pollution.

The EU has helped protect the environment and create thousands of Green Jobs and protect biodiversity at the same time.

AND HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

The CBI estimates the EU benefits each UK citizen by £1,225 per year and costs each UK citizen £116 per year.

Our membership costs less than 1% of UK GDP.

The Centre for Economics and Business Research suggest UK/EU immigration benefits the UK economy and if curbed could cost the UK economy £60 billion.

The UCL suggest EU migrants contribute 34% more in taxes than they receive in benefits. Don’t forget also around 40,000 UK citizens claim benefits in other EU states.
